Geeta Bali (1930 - January 21, 1965) was born in pre-partition Punjab as Harkirtan Kaur, a Sikh. Her family moved to Bombay and were living in near poverty when she started to get breaks in films.
She became a star in the 1950s. In 1955 she married Shammi Kapoor who was 2 years younger than her but not yet a star. She had also worked earlier with her future brother-in-law Raj Kapoor in "Bavre Nain" and with her future father-in-law Prithviraj Kapoor in "Anand Math". Her secretary was Surinder Kapoor, father of producer Boney Kapoor and actor Anil Kapoor. She had two children with Shammi, before she died on January 21, 1965 of small pox. She left behind a son Aditya aged 8 and a daughter Kanchan aged 3.

Meena Kumari
Born 1933 into a poor Parsee theatre family of Ali Bux and dancer Iqbal begum in Bombay, Maharashtra, India. Entered films to support family in difficult times. She was six when hired for Leatherface (1939) in 1939 by Vijay Bhatt and named Baby Meena. Later she became Meena Kumari when cast for Bhatt's Baiju Bawra (1952). She did mythological films with Homi Wadia and then comedies like Miss Mary (1957). She became personified as the archetypal good Hindu wife through many roles, long suffering and always true to the man. She excelled at tragedy and was often shown in a white sari carrying the film with her emotive acting. She was also thought to be the only actress who could sell a film on the strength of her name alone. Her major films are Daera (1953), Baiju Bawra (1952), 0046164, and of course her most well known film, Pakeezah (1972). She was married to Kamal Amrohi with whom she started making "Pakeezah". They separated in 1964. She was also an accompalished Urdu writer and had several poems published by Gulzar after her death. She battled alcoholism and loneliness and finally died, alone, in 1972.

Bina Rai
Bina Rai (Hindi: बिन रै, Urdu: بِن رے) was a leading actress primarily of the black and white era. She had to convince her parents to allow her to act in films, she claimed that she went on a hunger strike in order to convince her disapproving parents to let her join films, and they finally relented. In the 1950's she married actor Prem Nath. They had acted together in some films, the first movie in which he was paired with Bina was Aurat (1953 film), a Bollywood version of the tragic Biblical tale of Samson and Delilah (1949). The film was not a hit, but Bina and Prem Nath fell in love with each other. They married and soon set up their own production unit, known as P.N. Films. Their first film from P.N. Films was Shagufa (1954) and they had pinned high hopes on it, but audiences rejected it. Neither Bina Rai’s elfin charm nor Prem Nath’s sensitive portrayal of the role of a doctor could save "Shagufa" from being a flop. And the films that followed "Shagufa" — Prisoner of Golconda, Samunder and Watan disappeared almost as soon as they hit the theater screens. Thus the Prem Nath-Bina Rai pairing never clicked on the screen.
