Old Hindi Songs Biography

Lata Mangeshkar was born in Indore on September 8, 1929, and became, quite simply, the most popular playback singer in Bollywood's history. She has sung for over 50 years for actresses from Nargis to Preity Zinta, as well as having recorded albums of all kinds (ghazals, pop, etc). Until the 1991 edition, when her entry disappeared, the Guinness Book of World Records listed her as the most-recorded artist in the world with not less than 30,000 solo, duet, and chorus-backed songs recorded in 20 Indian languages between 1948 and 1987. Today that number might have reached 40,000!
She was born the daughter of Dinanath Mangeshkar, the owner of a theater company and a reputed classical singer in his own right. He started giving Lata singing lessons from the age of five, and she also studied with renowned singers Aman Ali Khan Sahib and Amanat Khan. Even at a young age she displayed a God-given musical gift and could master vocal exercises the first time.

Asha Bhosle
One of the greatest playback singers in Bollywood history, Asha Bhosle has recorded over 10,000 songs for over 800 movies. Although every class (ghazals, pop, etc) of song was within her vocal range, her specialty was in sensual songs or Western-styled songs--she had an uncanny knack for making every actress for whom she sung, from Zeenat Aman to Urmila Matondkar, smolder on screen as never before.
Born on 8 September 1932, Asha, like her sister, the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, was trained by her father, Dinanath Mangeshkar, in classical music, and it was only a matter of time before she too turned to playback singing. She made her debut with the film Chunaria (1948), but it took her a long time to make it to the top. Between 1948 and 1957, she sang more songs than any other playback singer, but the majority of these were in small, indistinct films--and whatever big film she got a chance to sing in, it was usually for the heroine's best friend or in a duet with bigger singers like Shamshad Begum, Geeta Dutt, or her own sister. And unfortunately having made an ill-advised marriage that alienated her from her family, she had no choice but to take up all available assignments to provide for her children.

The biography of well-known singer and artist Amirbai Karnataki written by Rehamat Tarikere has all possibilities of creating a new tradition in Kannada literature, writer K. Puttaswamy has said.
He was speaking after releasing the biography at a function held at Karnatak Vidhyavardhak Sangha here on Monday. Mr. Puttaswamy said Mr. Tarikere broke the norms for biographies and presented it in a new style. Breaking the set norms made this work more reader-friendly and interesting, he said.

Hemlata was a playback singer in Bollywood in the 1970s and early 1980s. She won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award for her classical rendition Tu jo mere sur main.. in Chitchor[1]. She began her career by singing Chanda ko dhoondhne... in Jeene Ki Raah (1969) which was a duet with Lata Mangeshkar. From there on she sang for many films including Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se, Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Nadiya Ke Paar and Paheli. She mostly sang for musicians like Usha Khanna and Ravindra Jain. However she was unable to gain greater popularity in Bollywood and is till date remembered for her title song from Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se.

Jency Anthony is a popular South Indian film playback singer who has worked with the film composers like Ilayaraaja in Tamil films. She was introduced to the Tamil movie industry in the song "Vaanathu Poonkili" in the movie Thiripurasundari scored by Ilayaraja. Her songs that followed were in many blockbuster movies like Mullum Malarum, Priya.

L.R.Eswari is a Veteran playback singer of Tamil movie Industry. She has also sang in other south Indian languages of Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Tulu.[1]

Mubarak Begum was born in Ahmedabad (Rajasthan) and moved to Mumbai in anticipation of making it as a singer. Mohay Aane Lagi Angrayee, was the first song she recorded for the film “Aiye”, which also a duet with Lata. Several songs and several films came and went but nothing spectacular came along. Her singing career leveraged heavily on Kamal Amrohi’s film “Daera” in which she sang seven songs, some of which became popular. “Devta Tum Ho Mera Sahara” probably got the most recognition. Again the film did not do well at the box-office and this affected her struggling singing career appreciably, despite being gifted with a unique and soulful voice and rendering style. Around the same time, SD Burman recorded Woh Na Ayenge Palat Kar for Devdas, which was received very well. Bimal Roy’s Madhumati was released in 1958 and is still remembered 50 years later for its splendid musical score by Salil Chowdhry and Mubarak Begum’s “Hum Haal-e-dil Sunaenge” was one of the many hits in this very popular film.
